Founder Story
‘You have cancer.’
These three words have the power to dramatically change someone’s existence. They set in motion events that can leave a patient feeling out of control of their body and circumstances.
Dr. Raghav Murali-Ganesh, a practicing oncologist, found himself grappling with an unsettling realization. While patients were receiving top-notch medical care for their diagnoses, there was a gap—an essential piece missing in the care puzzle. He noticed that those patients who took a more proactive role in managing their overall wellbeing, not just their disease, were achieving better outcomes. He witnessed firsthand how patients endure grueling treatments and navigate an uncertain future with courage. Yet, many lacked the resources or support to do so, especially once they left the treatment rooms. This frustration fueled a burning desire in him: What if he could help patients at a larger scale? What if they could receive holistic support beyond just the diagnosis?
It was through this shared mission that Raghav crossed paths with Tim Atkins, a lawyer with a heart for chronic disease support. Tim had spent years volunteering for cancer support organizations, driven by a personal connection to the disease. He had seen up close the emotional and logistical toll cancer takes on people. When Tim learned about Raghav’s vision for Osara Health, he felt an immediate connection. He knew he could help scale this vision, ensuring that no one would have to navigate their cancer journey alone. Together, the two co-founders set out to develop something that would genuinely change outcomes for patients around the world.
Osara Health was born from that vision—a place where patients could get the help they need to navigate the human side of a diagnosis. Raghav knew firsthand how modern medicine, with its strict schedules and regimented consultations, couldn’t always extend beyond treating the disease itself. “While your medical team treats the diagnosis,” he says, “Osara Health takes care of the rest.”
A few moments that stand out in Raghav’s practice. A young woman undergoing surgery for her brain tumor, with no caregiver for support. A newly redundant middle-aged man receiving immunotherapy while lacking access to basic food and transportation. A busy mother of four without primary care, who learns after multiple hospitalizations that the diarrhea she has been quietly battling at home is caused by metastatic bowel cancer. Their bravery was remarkable, but it was clear that the system wasn’t set up to give then the extra layer of care they needed to maintain their quality of life. Patients like this shouldn’t have to choose between treatment and maintaining a semblance of normal life. It was this desire to bridge that gap that propelled Raghav forward.
The two co founders agree ‘Cancer doesn’t discriminate’. Together they believe deeply that every patient, no matter their background, deserves a fair chance at not only surviving but thriving throughout their cancer journey.
Today, Tim oversees the scalability of the organization, ensuring that Osara Health can reach as many lives as possible, while Raghav remains deeply involved in the clinical side of the company, bringing his expertise and empathy to every decision. Their partnership reflects a balance of business acumen and medical insight, but most importantly, it’s driven by a shared passion for transforming cancer care—not just for the patients, but for the caregivers and loved ones who walk the journey with them.
